Ātea Disability 101 is a workshop to develop understanding of disability and the barriers to inclusion that exist for disabled people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Ātea Disability 101 will give you an understanding of the social model of disability and the barriers to inclusion that disabled people experience. In this workshop you’ll learn to:
- Use images and language which are positive and not stereotyping.
- Understand the social model of disability and its challenge for society to change.
- Understand the importance of disabled people connecting with their culture.
- Learn about attitude, physical environment and information barriers.
- Identify barriers to inclusion and options to reduce them.
- Develop strategies to be more inclusive of disabled people.
