Interview Practice, Module 11

Hi everyone,  I'm interested in your opinion on the interview practice which is part of the assignment for Module 11 Distance Learning.  The supervisor gets a copy of the client information and is supposed to arrange for the trainee to run a mock interview, with the supervisor acting as client, and then do an evaluation/feedback on the exercise. I've just got Module 11 back from a trainee with the following: Q1. (How did you cope with the interview process) "It was identified that doing a mock interview with the Senior Adviser would be awkward.  What we had done was have my SA ask questions pertaining to the assessment, such as what would you do in this situation?  What paperwork do you need to prepare beforehand?  Why is it important to build rapport?  What is the best way to conduct yourself when faced with Client J's issues?  It continued on with the Advisor asking what I would do if Client J reacts in a certain way.  What are two different options to help with an issue?" Questions 2 and 3 follow on the assumption that the mock interview has been conducted, so although she gave me a list of skills that she thinks she would be comfortable/uncomfortable using, and what she thinks she needs to work on, this hasn't been tested in practice. She also gave me a list of options for the client to balance their budget, and things to follow up on, which were all good suggestions (but not really what the exercise is about). So my questions are:  Would you consider this has adequately answered the questions?  Would you consider this process has demonstrated to the trainee what it is like to conduct and interview and the kind of things she needs to be aware of?

Re: Interview Practice, Module 11

Slightly rude that they think it woudl be awkward - its a training session? Maybe for DL and online it is something that woudl need to be done over zoom - unless we are happy with the responses we get. in the online one they jot down questions to ask I think The questions that were asked are good questions - but then it is down to the service to ensure they are interview ready.......

Re: Interview Practice, Module 11

The whole point of the exercise is to practice interviewing and being face to face with someone and having to conduct an interview. I am not sure I fully understand the SA point of view in saying it would be awkward. Does the trainee need any more support Christina? Long term, I  would be interested in brainstorming solutions if this happened often. Is this the first time you have heard of it?
