FMIC Case Study 1

Hi friends, this is what I have found checking the distance learning resources and other resources. I do appreciate all the work that has gone into producing there trainee resource booklets & facilitator manuals for us, I know it was a huge project. It may be just with this discussion board and COPS we can finally iron out any misunderstandings or mistakes. <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><b><u><span style="background-color: #6fa8dc; color: #000000;">Client 1 (a single parent)</span> </u></b></div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The winter energy payment - first time seen is in <b>Trainee resource booklet module 6 page 56 her <span style="color: #ff0000;">version 2</span> budget. </b></div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><span style="color: #0000ff;">Repeated for Client 1</span><b> </b>on <b>PowerPoint slide 26 Client Impacts - Income</b>. & in <b>Trainee resource booklet module 8 page 45</b> & <b>DISTANCE LEARNING module 6 about page 63</b> & <b>66</b> & in <b>Facilitator manual module 8 page 38</b> all showing a WEP of $24.48 /week in <u>October</u></div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"></div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">If we follow the explanation about how to calculate & write the WEP on a budget given at <b>Facilitator manual module 8 page 15 point 5c (20weeks!) </b>& in the<b> DISTANCE LEARNING trainee resource module 8 about page 20.</b></div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Based on this <b>point 5c</b> that would make this single parent <b>Trainee resource booklet module 6 page 56 <span style="color: #0000ff;">Client 1</span> (a single parent) </b>to be receiving an expected WEP of $24.48x52/20weeks = $63.65  a huge amount! and which caused quite a lot of emotion expressed from my Whanau Ora trainees.</div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">When checked out the WINZ website says "The Winter Energy Payment was <u>doubled</u> for 2020 due to COVID-19.(which made it for our <span style="color: #0000ff;">single parent</span> $40.92/week and for 22 weeks):</div> <div>QUESTION: A parent with a child doesn't qualify as a couple for the WEP do they? </div> <div style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Each year WEP has been paid out for 22 weeks & still is. Re: FMIC Case Study 1

There's a bit of undergrowth to get through there Angela, (clearly this program is trying to be a bit too clever) but I think I get the picture.  I remember the issue with the cash flow - and my trainees picked it up, thinking they'd done something wrong. I also take issue with the fact that figures in that cashflow are given only as dollar amounts, without .00 for cents.  It might be being pedantic but if we're all about best practice, trainees should be seeing and writing costs correctly.  It is incredibly helpful for adding/subtracting columns of numbers if  all the decimal points are aligned, then you can more easily see what you're working with.

Re: FMIC Case Study 1

that's an unexpected cut and paste quirk of Te Papa Hou isn't it.  Makes for very difficult reading /.

Re: FMIC Case Study 1

I will try the post again. See if this works. Client 1 (a single parent) The winter energy payment - first time seen is in Trainee resource module 6 page 56 her version 2 budget. Repeated for Client 1 on PowerPoint slide 26 Client Impacts - Income. & In Trainee resource module 8 page 45 & DISTANCE LEARNING module 6 about page 63 & 66 & in Facilitator manual module 8 page 38 all showing a WEP of $24.48 /week in October   If we follow the explanation about how to calculate & write the WEP on a budget given at Facilitator manual module 8 page 15-point 5c (20weeks!) & In the DISTANCE LEARNING trainee resource module 8 about page 20. Based on this point 5c that would make this single parent Trainee resource module 6 page 56 Client 1 (a single person) to be receiving an expected WEP of $24.48x52/20weeks = $63.65 a huge amount! and which caused quite a lot of emotion expressed from my Whanau Ora trainees.   When checked out the WINZ website says "The Winter Energy Payment was doubled for 2020 due to COVID-19. (Which made it for our single parent $40.92/week and for 22 weeks): Each year it has been paid out for 22 weeks & still is. (Unless I missed a special notice in 2020)   While I'm discussing Client 1 the information given to write her cashflow in Trainee resource module 8 page 44 and repeated in Facilitator manual module 8 page 37 & DL module 8 about page 44 says "Your client pays her insurance quarterly. A payment of $75 is due on the 1st of November". This should be in week 4 but in Facilitator manual module 8 page 40 the cashflow shows it LATE in week 5 which of course affects the bottom line which is shown as a self-checker for trainees in Trainee resource module 8 page 59 & in DL module 8 about pages 44, 45,46 and probably on PP slides but I haven't checked.

Re: FMIC Case Study 1

Hi Christina I've reposted & I think it's worked. Yeah the rounding is done in module 8 for case study client 2. I have started a discussion for each case study and have mentioned the rounding and that I would like to know what other facilitators think. I think it doesn't really make things any easier and because of this example there is a opening for a misunderstanding with some trainees thinking that it is ok to round up or down numbers. I don't think it simplifies things. What do others think?
