He mahi ki te Taiwhenua- Working in rural communities

Kia ora koutou katoa, I am really interested to get a thread going around those who work with whanau in our te taiwhenua areas- Rural/Isolated communities. Our team went to Hicks Bay yesterday to work with whanau who needed budgeting support after the floods. For those that don't know, Hicks Bay is about a 4 hour drive from Gisborne and our highway the 35 is constantly in states of repair. These communities are also majority Maori. On our drive back after a full day, we spoke of the issues that our whanau face- High transport costs, vehicle repairs, food costs, low work opportunities. On the flip side of that, what they do have is a strong sense of community, whanau, whakapapa and a strong connection to marae and taiao. That trip made me wonder if anyone else ( I am sure there is) that is doing this kind of mahi. What do you see when working with rural whanau? What are the issues that they face compared to our town and urban clients? I would love a korero with those that do this on the regular, to pick your brain. Kia pai to raa
